The idea for F!GHT was birthed in August 2008 from a conversation between some friends on a long road trip from DC to Kansas City. We were getting a heart to see the God move in the hardcore scene and wanted to do something that would inspire hardcore kids around the country to pray, fast and preach the gospel. The message was on our hearts and we began to brainstorm what to do with it.
Andrew tried to start a tshirt company when he was younger, it didn’t go so hot but he spent a couple years running the business until he finally called it quits. After doing it for so long, tshirts were just one of the few things he felt like he knew how to do, so naturally, we started making tshirts. We chose the name F!GHT after Matthew 11:12 “…the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” The bare bones meaning behind F!GHT is to lay aside a passive faith and apathy and take up the call of discipleship.
We started in January 2009 with $100. We printed a box of shirts that just sort of sat in the trunk of my car and sold one or two every once in awhile. We weren’t really sure what to do, or where to take F!GHT, to be honest, we didn’t really have any big dreams or hopes for it, we just wanted to make some shirts that carried the heart and message that we We shipped our first online order in March 2009.
The Lord has taken us on an amazing journey since then, bringing us awesome new friends, incredible support and response and even a brief tour around the country. F!GHT is still a small, but growing project that we run out of my basement (and sometimes my bedroom) on the side after school, jobs etc. We don’t know what the Lord has in store for the future of F!GHT, but every month and year that goes by, we realize how much we can trust His faithful leadership. All we can do is love God, follow his lead, try our best and have fun. And that’s what we’ll do until it’s over.
